Trending Tropicals® Introductions for 2022

Love colorful indoor plants? Costa Farms’ premium houseplants collection gets a boost of big bold colors.
The new 2022 additions to the popular Trending Tropicals® houseplant collection feature big bold color, offering plant lovers a range of vibrant foliage: Red, green, blue, and silver!

New Bold Colors
Vibrant foliage coloration is unusual in houseplants, most of which produce leaves in various shades of green. Unusual colors, such as red, pink, yellow, and blue tints, add beautiful foils to your green-hued houseplant collection. Leaves with two tones, called variegation, also add distinctive looks. “Varieties with leaf variegation provide contrast and can make our plant collections look even more curated,” says Horticulturist Justin Hancock. New additions to the premium houseplant collection are all about color.

Peperomia ‘Schumi Red’ features deep crimson crinkled leaves.

Alocasia ‘Silver Dragon’ sports large silver-etched leaves.

Epipremnum pinnatum Baltic Blue introduces an exciting new blue-tinted pothos.

Epipremnum aureum ‘Global Green’ pothos offers green-on-green variegation with mid-green leaves with darker green edges.

Spathiphyllum 'Jet Diamond' is a new and improved peace lily that shows leaves streaked with silvery-white variegation.

Additionally, Geogenanthus ciliatus (aka Geo) is one of the first houseplant species introduced in years. Also new to the collection is a beautiful fenestrated Rhaphidophora tetrasperma (also called Mini Monstera).

More Big News: Bigger Plants
Trending Tropicals® are getting bigger this year – literally. The collection has introduced larger plants sold in 10-inch-diameter white high-sheen pots. “People have reached out asking for showpiece floor plants,” says Justin. “We are able to bring you larger plants that are more mature, offering an instant impact floor plant,” he says. Larger Trending Tropicals® selections include Raven® ZZ Plant, Colorful Aglaonema, and Xanthosoma, with more being added.

Retired Varieties
The mission of the Trending Tropicals® collection is to produce cutting-edge houseplants that offer collectors and new plant owners exceptional and different species and varieties of houseplants that stand out and make an instant impact in home interiors. “We have always planned on adding new varieties to the collection,” says Justin. “And with the new additions, it’s time to retire some of the others. Some varieties may be available only for a limited amount of time,” he said. Houseplants being retired from the Trending Tropicals® collection in 2022 include Ficus triangularis ‘Variegata’, Tradescantia ‘Nanouk’, and Maze Plant (Hydnophytum).
