Plant Bio

Stromanthe thalia Triostar

Native to areas of South America (and formerly botanically known as Stromanthe sanguinea Triostar), this stunning houseplant is in the Prayer Plant family (Marantaceae), making it a close relative of Prayer Plants and Calatheas. It’s become a favorite houseplant for its bright color, as well as an outdoor accent plant for shade.

Triostar Stromanthe likes bright light indoors but tolerates lower light conditions. The more light it gets, however, the brighter the coloration is. Like Calatheas, it hates to dry out, so water it as the top inch or so of the potting mix starts to dry to the touch. It prefers warm temperatures (over 50F/10C at night) and above-average relative humidity levels. It can tolerate average humidity levels (around 40 to 50 percent) if it’s not allowed to dry out.

Note: This plant may have some natural degree of toxicity and may cause discomfort or illness if ingested. Additionally, exposure to the sap of this plant may cause discomfort to individuals with a sensitivity to it upon contact. Grown for ornamental purposes and not intended for human or animal consumption.
