Platinum Scindapsus (Scindapsus Platinum f. Java)
Platinum Scindapsus Plant Features
One of the most elegant climbing/trailing houseplants we grow, Platinum Scindapsus shows off teardrop-shaped dark green leaves heavily overlaid in silver. If you look close in bright light, you may notice the leaves appear to sparkle in the light.
With its silvery leaves, Platinum is a standout. It makes for a gorgeous statement plant if you want it as a focal point. But its silvery foliage pairs well with pretty much any other houseplant, from the deep, rich color of Raven ZZ to other silvery plants like its cousin, Moonlight Scindapsus.
It's also versatile in how you grow it. You can enjoy Platinum Scindapsus as a climbing houseplant, scaling a moss pole, trellis, or plant wall. Or let it trail gracefully from a hanging basket, plant shelf, or plantstand. Or grow it horizontally, clothing a surface like a mantle with its blanket of leaves.
There are a couple of different forms of Scindapsus Platinum. Ours is the Java form. It's often confused with the Scindapsus variety Silver Hero.

Scindapsus Platinum Light Requirements
Platinum Scindapsus grows happiest and healthiest in a spot with medium to bright light. Not sure how much light that is? Watch to see if the plant casts a medium to strong shadow much of the day. If it doesn't have a good shadow throughout the day, try moving it to a brighter spot. While Platinum Scindapsus prefers a bright spot, it tolerates low light. In dimmer spots, it does not grow as full or as lush. It does not need natural sunlight to thrive. It enjoys both natural and artificial light.
Watering Platinum Scindapsus
Like many other aroids (plants in the arum family, like Monstera, Pothos, and Philodendron), this vine is sensitive to overwatering, so be sure to let the top couple of inches to the top half of the potting mix dry before you water it again. You might find the leaves start to curl under if it stays too wet or too dry for extended periods.
Platinum Scindapsus Humidity Needs
Platinum Scindapsus prefers above-average relative humidity, but it will do well in more average conditions (40 to 60 percent relative humidity). If you have especially dry air in your home, boost ambient moisture by grouping your Scindapsus with other houseplants. Or place a small humidifier nearby.
Fertilizing Platinum Scindapsus
Fertilize this climbing/trailing houseplant in spring and summer, if you wish, with a fertilizer formulated for use on houseplants. Follow the directions on the product packaging. Never apply more fertilizer than the instructions recommend.
Pruning Platinum Scindapsus
Pruning isn't required to grow a beautiful, healthy plant. But you can pinch back the new growth to encourage it to branch and become fuller, rather than focusing its growth from one main shoot.
This variety is grown for ornamental use, and is not intended for human or animal consumption.
