Variegated Silver Streak Pothos (Epipremnum amplissimum Variegata)
Variegated Silver Streak Pothos Plant Features
Variegated silver streak pothos is an exceptionally beautiful and once very-hard-to-find climbing houseplant that sports long lance-shaped leaves streaked and splashed with creamy-yellow. As the new leaves emerge, the variegation is more of a lime-green color; it lightens as the leaf hardens off.
Like most other Epipremnum varieties, this plant does best when it's allowed to climb. Give it a support like a wall, moss pole, or other structure and you'll see the leaves get larger and longer as the plant matures.
It's easy to propagate, so you can readily take cuttings and share this houseplant with friends and family. It tolerates a wide range of growing conditions, like its cousin golden pothos, making it a great choice for beginners and experienced plant parents alike. This is a houseplant for everyone.
Variegated Silver Streak Pothos Growing Instructions
Light Needs for Variegated Silver Streak Pothos
Ensure your variegated Epipremnum amplissimum stays happy by keeping it in bright light. It will tolerate medium light and even lower-light levels, but it won't be as happy. If you're not sure if the spot where you want to grow it has enough light, here's a check. Place an object there and note the shadow. If it casts a medium or strong shadow throughout the day, it should be fine for your plant. Tip: It does not require sunlight to thrive. It grows well under natural or artificial light sources, even in windowless offices with lots of overhead lights.
Water Needs for Variegated Silver Streak Pothos
This gorgeous climbing houseplant is largely considered easy to grow because it's relatively drought tolerant. But while it can withstand being too dry from time to time, variegated silver streak pothos hates overwatering. If you're watering the traditional way, let the top couple of inches of the potting mix dry to the touch before you water it again. If you're using a Wick & Grow™ self-watering planter, it's just fine staying evenly moist. (The self-watering system keeps it just moist without being too wet.)
Humidity Needs
This variegated climbing houseplant loves above-average relative humidity levels. But it does just fine in average and even low-humidity conditions. If you would like to raise relative humidity levels for your plant, group it with other houseplants, grow it in a large terrarium or display case. Don't worry about misting, though. Misting doesn't appreciably raise relative humidity levels.
Fertilizing Variegated Silver Streak Pothos
Fertilize in spring and summer, if you wish, with a fertilizer formulated for use on houseplants. Just be sure to follow the directions on the product packaging. Never apply more fertilizer than the instructions recommend.
Pruning Tips
You shouldn't need to prune this plant unless you want to control its size or keep it full and bushy as it matures. In both cases, simply pinch off the new growth. This makes it develop side shoots.
Note: This plant may have some natural degree of toxicity and may cause discomfort or illness if ingested. Additionally, exposure to the sap of this plant may cause discomfort to individuals with a sensitivity to it upon contact. Grown for ornamental purposes and not intended for human or animal consumption.
