Yellow Sunrise Pothos (Epipremnum pinnatum Yellow Sunrise)

Yellow Sunrise Pothos Plant Features

Yellow Sunrise is a newer selection of Epipremnum pinnatum that shows off gorgeous medium to dark green leaves variegated in gold. At first glance, it may look like traditional Golden Pothos (Epipremnum aureum), but look closely and you'll see they have different leaves. Yellow Sunrise leaves tend to be longer and narrower -- and as the plant matures, they fenestrate (develop slits and holes) like a Monstera!

It's just as easy to grow as other Pothos varieties, so Yellow Sunrise is perfect for beginners and experienced plant parents alike. It tolerates a wide range of growing conditions, but looks best in a warm, bright spot.

It's a fast-growing plant (and the more light it gets, the faster it grows) that loves climbing up. Show it off by growing it up a wall, moss pole, or other support. It can be grown as a trailing plant for a while, but if it's not allowed to climb or stops climbing, it will develop runner growth. This means the stems keep on growing, but leaves don't form.

Yellow Sunrise looks similar to some older varieties, including Epipremnum pinnatum Aurea, Epipremnum pinnatum Sunburst, and Epipremnum pinnatum Yellow Flame. The key differences between this one and the older varieties is that it tends to be a lot more stable (meaning it reverts, or produces non-variegated growth less), it performs well in a wider range of light levels, and it forms its fenestrations earlier than other varieties we've tested.

Yellow Sunrise Pothos Growing Instructions

Yellow Sunrise Pothos Light Needs

To keep this gorgeous variegated pothos happiest, grow it in bright light -- lots of it. Not sure how much light your spot gets? Check on the shadow of your plant throughout the day. In bright light, your plant will have a medium or strong shadow throughout the day. Like other Pothos varieties, Yellow Sunrise can survive in lower light conditions (but it won’t thrive). Without bright light, though, it will grow more slowly and may not show as much yellow variegation in the foliage.
Tip: Don’t have a bright window? No worries: It doesn’t need sunlight. This houseplant can grow just as well under natural as artificial light sources.
Indoors through a window, Yellow Surnise Pothos can typically tolerate some direct sun if you acclimate it. If you don’t let it adjust first, can experience sunburn until it gets used to the light.

Yellow Sunrise Pothos Water Requirements

As with many of its cousins in the Aroid family (like Monstera and Philodendron), Yellow Sunrise Pothos hates being overwatered. Be sure to allow the top couple of inches of the potting mix dries to the touch before you water it. Or use a good self-watering system so you don’t have to worry. The leaves may turn yellow and drop prematurely if it dries out too much or is overwatered.

Humidity Needs

This variegated houseplant enjoys above-average relative humidity levels. Happily, it tolerates average-humidity conditions well, so you don't need to provide high humidity for it to thrive. That said, if you would like to boost relative humidity levels for your plant, group it with other houseplants, grow it in a large terrarium or display case.

Fertilizing Yellow Sunrise Pothos

If you want to promote more and faster growth, you can fertilize in spring and summer with a fertilizer formulated for use on houseplants. Follow the directions on the product packaging. Never apply more fertilizer than the instructions recommend as over-fertilization can damage or even kill a houseplant.

Pruning

Our Yellow Sunrise Pothos plants are typically pruned in a mounding shape to reduce damage to the plant in shipping. As it matures, this climbing houseplant will vine and can be displayed as a hanging plant or trained to grow up a wall or moss pole. If you like to keep your plant compact, periodically pinch back new growth. Regular pinches make the plant grow new side branches, becoming more full. You can pinch or prune it at any time of the year without worry of hurting the plant.

Note: This plant may have some natural degree of toxicity and may cause discomfort or illness if ingested. Additionally, exposure to the sap of this plant may cause discomfort to individuals with a sensitivity to it upon contact. Grown for ornamental purposes and not intended for human or animal consumption.
