Plant Bio

Alocasia reginae

Alocasia reginae, sometimes called Silver Velvet Alocasia thanks to the silver-blue-green overlay on its leaves is a small species native to Borneo that was first described in the 1880s. Despite being known by horticulturists for more than 100 years, it’s still relatively hard to find. We’re excited to offer it to you. It’s a lovely companion to its relative, Alocasia Silver Dragon.

Alocasia reginae grows best in medium to bright indoor light, preferring a spot within 3 to 4 feet or so of an unobstructed east- or west-facing window. Don't have a good window? No worries. It also does well under artificial lights. Water as the top quarter to half of the potting mix dries to the touch. Take care not to overwater this Alocasia, as its roots are sensitive to rot if it stays too wet. Average household temperatures and humidity levels are fine, though it appreciates above-average relative humidity when possible.

Note: This plant may have some natural degree of toxicity and may cause discomfort or illness if ingested. Additionally, exposure to the sap of this plant may cause discomfort to individuals with a sensitivity to it upon contact. Grown for ornamental purposes and not intended for human or animal consumption.
