Monstera obliqua Mayuna Variegata
Native to tropical rainforest environments, Monstera obliqua varieties naturally climb trees using aerial roots to reach brighter light beneath the canopy. Mayuna’s narrower foliage and delicate fenestrations give it an appearance that many collectors compare to Monstera adansonii, though its shape and variegation pattern are more refined and uncommon. Its elongated foliage and climbing habit have also drawn comparisons to Monstera lechleriana Albo among aroid enthusiasts.
Like most Monsteras, this variety grows best in bright but indirect light. Natural or artificial light both work well. Place it within a couple of feet of an unobstructed east-facing window or slightly farther back from a west-facing window for best results. It tolerates medium light conditions, but growth may slow and variegation may become less pronounced over time. It can take some gentle early morning sun through a window, particularly in Northern climates, but avoid direct sun exposure after about 9:30–10 am, especially on the lighter variegated areas of the foliage.
In our testing processes, Monstera Mayuna Variegata has performed beautifully in our Twist.Lift.Water.™ self-watering system. The waterwick pulls moisture up from the reservoir as the plant needs it, helping keep the potting mix evenly moist without becoming overly wet. Just refill the reservoir regularly without overfilling it. If watering traditionally, allow the top 25–50 percent of the potting mix to begin drying before watering again. Monsteras appreciate consistency, but they generally perform better when allowed to dry moderately between waterings rather than staying constantly wet.
This Monstera grows well in average household temperatures between 65°F and 85°F (18°C to 29°C). Thanks to its tropical origins, it tolerates heat well but does not like cold conditions or chilly drafts. Try to keep it above 60°F/15.5°C for best growth and foliage quality.
While Monstera Mayuna Variegata adapts reasonably well to average indoor humidity, it appreciates above-average humidity levels if you are able to provide them. Higher humidity can help support larger foliage, cleaner fenestrations, and better overall leaf quality as the plant matures.
