Lipstick plants are native to tropical regions of Southeast Asia, where they grow as epiphytes—naturally trailing along tree branches in warm, humid environments. This background helps explain their preference for bright light, good airflow, and slightly drying out between waterings.

Red Elf Lipstick Plant grows best in bright, indirect light, such as near an east- or west-facing window or under plant lights. It can tolerate medium light conditions, though flowering may be reduced.

In our testing, it performs well when the top 1–2 inches of potting mix are allowed to dry between waterings. Avoid keeping the soil consistently wet, as overwatering can lead to root issues.
