Rhodospatha Rojo

$49.00

If you’re interested in gorgeous, hard-to-find, but very easy-to-grow plants, we have one for you! Rhodospatha Rojo is a climbing Aroid (relative of Monstera, Philodendron, and Pothos) that sports thick, rubbery deep green leaves flushed with purple. If that’s not enough, the undersides of the leaves are a lush chocolate-red color, giving it a multi-color look.

Even though it looks (and sounds!) exotic, its care is similar your typical Philodendron. Just give it good light levels, let the self-watering system keep it hydrated, and avoid a spot near hot or cold drafts and watch this exotic beauty grow!

Order now and we’ll hand-pick your Rhodospatha fresh from the farm and deliver it direct to your door (with no stores or warehouses in between). Shipping, handling, and a heat pack (if needed) is included in the price.

  •          Can climb a moss pole and like many Aroids, the leaves may get larger as it climbs
  •          Perfect companion for varieties like Scindapsus Platinum or Monstera lechleriana Albo if you want a high-contrast look; pair it with Scindapsus Black Mamba or Raven ZZ for a tone-on-tone (or goth) look
  •          Super hard to find—perfect for plant collectors

Light Level: Indirect Sunlight

This plant needs to live in a room with at least some natural light. Place it on a table or countertop with windows nearby.

Water Level: Thirsty

This plant can only go 1-2 weeks without water so check on it weekly and add water every time the top two inches of soil dry out.

Quick Tips

Rhodospatha Roja tolerates average household relative humidity levels, but keep it away from hot or cold drafts, as they can damage its leaves.

Rhodospatha Rojo

Never heard of Rhodospatha? Don’t worry—you’re not alone! We love bringing you exciting new plants to enjoy. And after growing/testing Rhodospatha for several years, our Plant Hunter has decided it’s worth making available to you!

Rhodospatha is a genus of Aroids native to rainforest areas of Central and South America (from Southern Mexico south through Brazil). There are about 75 different species in the genus. We haven’t been able to nail down exactly which species this is. But we can tell you how to be successful with it.

First off, give it good light. A bright spot is best, but it tolerates medium light. Shoot for a location within 3 feet or so a good-sized east or west window. It tolerates lower light levels but will be slower growing and the dark color won’t be as rich.

Watering is a breeze thanks to the Wick & Grow self-watering system it’s in. Just add water to the reservoir as it empties and be sure to never fill the reservoir over the top of the window at the base of the pot. It’s a bit more drought-tolerant than it looks. (But remember, just because it tolerates drought doesn’t mean it wants to dry out.)

Average household temperatures and humidity levels are fine for this low-maintenance climber (though it does appreciate above-average relative humidity), so you can sit back, relax, and enjoy the show!

Note: This plant may have some natural degree of toxicity and may cause discomfort or illness if ingested. Additionally, exposure to the sap of this plant may cause discomfort to individuals with a sensitivity to it upon contact.
