Lemon top Pothos (Epipremnum aureum Lemon Top)

Lemon top Pothos Plant Features

If you have a bright spot, grow bold with the unique beauty of Lemon Top Pothos (Epipremnum aureum Lemon Top). This super-easy-care houseplant is an absolute delight to grow.

It features heart-shaped dark green leaves that emerge a lemon-yellow to lime-green color (depending on light; the more light it gets, the brighter the color of the new growth). Unlike Neon Pothos, its new growth is a subtle mix of hues. As the leaves mature, they slowly fade to deep, rich green.

Lemon Top Pothos is a climbing/trailing houseplant you can grow trailing from a plant shelf or basket, horizontally along a tabletop or mantle, or vertically up a pole or wall. If you grow it up vertically, the leaves will get larger and more majestic as the plant grows.

This Pothos variety is a mutation we found on Lemon Meringue. Unlike its parent, Lemon Top doesn’t sport yellow edges, though some leaves may have a bit of dark green edging. It’s easy to tell from its grandparent, Global Green, because the leaves are gold instead of green-on-green variegated and tend to be wider and larger.

Note: A US Plant Patent has been applied for on this variety, so we’re required to tell you propagation is prohibited.

Lemon top Pothos Growing Instructions

Light Needs for Lemon Top Pothos

We recommend growing Lemon Top in bright light. The brighter the spot you have for it, the better it will look and the better it will grow. Like other Pothos varieties, it tolerates low light well, though in lower light levels, its fantastic coloring won’t be as bright and it will grow lankier and leggier, with more open space between leaves. Tip: It does not require sunlight to thrive. It grows well under natural or artificial light sources. In most areas, it can take some direct sun, particularly morning sun, through a window.

Water Needs for Lemon Top Pothos

Lemon Top Pothos tolerates drought pretty well, but likes to stay moist, but not wet. If you’re watering the traditional way, allow the top couple of inches of the potting mix to dry in between waterings. If you use the Wick & Grow self-watering system, water only by adding moisture to the reservoir and be sure you never overfill the reservoir.

If it’s getting too much or too little water, you may see its leaves go yellow and drop prematurely.

Humidity Needs of Lemon Top Pothos

This variegated climbing houseplant loves above-average relative humidity levels. Happily, it tolerates average (45 percent or more relative humidity) and even low-humidity conditions. If you want to boost relative humidity levels for your Pothos, group it with other houseplants or grow it a display case.

Fertilizing Lemon Top Pothos

Fertilize this easy-care houseplant in the spring and summer months, if you wish, with a fertilizer formulated for use on houseplants. Just be sure to follow the directions on the product packaging. Never apply more fertilizer than the instructions recommend.

Pruning Lemon Top Pothos

You shouldn't need to prune this plant unless you want to control its size or keep it full and bushy as it matures. In both cases, simply pinch off the new growth. This makes it develop side shoots.

Q&A

Is Lemon Top another name for Jessenia Pothos?
No, Lemon Top and Jessenia are different varieties. Lemon Top has wider, rounder leaves at the base and tends to be more evenly colored. Jessenia, on the other hand, is a sport of Marble Queen and typically shows off green marbled variegation.
