Shangri-La Pothos (Epipremnum aureum Shangri-La)
Shangri-La Pothos Plant Features
A truly unique Pothos variety, Shangri-La (Epipremnum aureum Shangri-La) is as polarizing as it is unmistakable. This selection is distinctive because its heart-shaped leaves have crinkled, crested undersides and don’t fully unfold. Because of this, it’s been given the nickname Sleeping Pothos (since the leaves don’t open flat) and Spinach Pothos (as some people think the leaves look like steamed spinach).
This variety sports dark green foliage, often lightly variegated with gold. Because the leaves stay closed, it tends to be a slower grower than many other Pothos varieties.
Like most Pothos (Epipremnum) varieties, Shangri-La can be grown as a climbing vine, trailing plant, or left to grow horizontally across a mantle or tabletop. In warm, humid conditions, it will form adventitious roots along its stems, allowing it to freely climb walls or other structures.
Note: Shangri-La Pothos was developed by Japanese Terunoworld.

Shangri-La Pothos Growing Instructions
Light Needs for Shangri-La Pothos
Growing this easy-care climbing houseplant in a spot that receives medium to bright light will keep it happiest. If you're unsure about the light levels in your home, one basic test is to look at the shadows an object creates. In medium to bright light, the plant will have a medium or strong shadow throughout the day. While this houseplant enjoys bright light, it can survive in low light conditions. Without bright light, though, it will not be as full or as lush.
Tip: It does not require sunlight to thrive. It grows well under natural or artificial light sources.
Water Needs for Shangri-La Pothos
Like many other aroids (plants in the arum family, like Monstera and Philodendron), this vine is sensitive to overwatering. Ensure the top couple of inches of the potting mix dries to the touch before you water it. The leaves may turn yellow and drop prematurely if it dries out too much or is overwatered.
It is well adapted to our Wick & Grow® self-watering system and thrives in conditions where it gets a small amount of water daily.
Humidity Needs of Shangri-La Pothos
This climbing houseplant enjoys above-average relative humidity levels, which makes sense as it’s native to areas of the South Pacific. Happily, Shangri-La tolerates average and even low-humidity conditions like any other Pothos. If you want to boost relative humidity levels for your plant, group it with other houseplants, grow it in a large terrarium or display case.
Fertilizing Shangri-La Pothos
Fertilize in spring and summer, if you wish, with a fertilizer formulated for use on houseplants. Just be sure to follow the directions on the product packaging. Never apply more fertilizer than the instructions recommend.
Pruning Shangri-La Pothos
You shouldn't need to prune this plant unless you want to control its size or keep it full and bushy as it matures. In both cases, simply pinch off the new growth. This makes it develop side shoots.
Note: This plant may have some natural degree of toxicity and may cause discomfort or illness if ingested. Additionally, exposure to the sap of this plant may cause discomfort to individuals with a sensitivity to it upon contact. Grown for ornamental purposes and not intended for human or animal consumption.
