Plant Bio

Sygonium wendlandii

Hailing from tropical rainforests of areas of Central America, Black Velvet Syngonium is surprisingly hard to find for how easy it is to grow. It’s earned its common name for its dark green color and velvety texture.

Like most houseplants, Black Velvet Syngonium wants as much light indoors as it can get. But it will do okay in medium-light conditions well. You’ll find it grows best within about 5 feet of an unobstructed east- or west-facing window (or the equivalent under artificial lights). It grows best when watered as the top 25 percent or so of the potting mix dries to the touch. Give it average household temperatures and average to above-average relative humidity levels (above 45 percent or so is best).

Note: This plant may have some natural degree of toxicity and may cause discomfort or illness if ingested. Additionally, exposure to the sap of this plant may cause discomfort to individuals with a sensitivity to it upon contact. Grown for ornamental purposes and not intended for human or animal consumption.
