As a gardener, one of my favorite things about winter is when plant companies announce all of their new varieties. I used to spend hours pouring over catalogs, looking at everything new and cool, dreaming about adding them to my yard.
It's not much different working for a plant company -- I still love looking at everything new -- but there's an element of pride to be one of the folks releasing new plant varieties to the world. This year it was extra special because one of our new varieties (Red Aglaonema 'Pink Dalmatian') was voted best new foliage plant at the annual Tropical Plant Industry Exhibition show in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
It was a wonderful surprise to receive this news. While we're exceedingly proud of this variety, it was exciting to see that everyone else loves it, too. It shouldn't be a surprise, I guess --- Pink Dalmatian is one of the easiest houseplants to grow. You practically can't kill it (unless you overwater it; that's the easiest way to kill this, or any variety of Red Aglaonema). It has gorgeous dark green leaves decorated with bright pink speckles, so the plant adds a fun, festive look all year round as an indoor plant.
Look for Pink Dalmatian Red Aglaonema to start shipping to stores later this year!
